It's been many years since I've upgraded 9x with a full version CD.

There are some files you have to rename/move or whatever in order for it to work and I can't remember what all they are?
If you don't, setup tells you "This computer already has Windows, you need an upgrade CD blah blah......"

I know you have to rename win.com, win.ini... maybe command.com, but I can't remember them all.

If any of you know exactly which files I need to rename/move, PLEASE let me know. I don't have a Win98SE upgrade disk.

p.s. For those of you who will choose to suggest me to use a difference operating system, or ask me why I am loading 98SE, please don't bother... This is work, not home.

Delete c:\windows\win.com & \wininit.exe. Install from dos prompt, after running "smartdrv.exe". After that, when the installer suggests that the installation files should go to c:\windows.000, change that back to c:\windows.

You shouldn't have to do anything special. Boot into the OS. Put in the CD. Start the upgrade.

Now, using UPGRADE media for a FRESH install requires hacking. But not what you're attempting.
