My AOpen Ax6bcpro is 100 mHz buss, single AGP, 256megs Crutial CAS2 ram and Maxed out with a Slot1 P3 800. I'm using a Creatives Lab TNT2 ultra and need to upgrade ( I just read the responses about the sorry 2D graphics). I probabally won't upgade anything until next year and then everything will be new so I'm not looking for future use on the card I'm about to get. I like to play 3D shooters and really can't wait for Duke4ever.
I'm leaning toward getting a Voodoo5 while I still can.
Does anyone have any input. I'd like to spend between $100 and $125 but may go up to $150.

OK so I've read a lot of posts going back as far as I can and have gotten some new ideas. Apparently 1X AGP is not going to make a big difference when getting the latest technology.
And the fact that that Voodoo5 is sooo long, I'm concerned about having enough clearance, not to mention lack of support.
So now I'm just about to go for the 3D Prophet 4500 Kyro 11. The GF2 GTS is tempting but I'd want the 64meg and that stretches my budget to the limit.
Origionally I was concerned that with my aging MB that I wouldn't get all the performance that the new cards offer.
Am I closer to the mark now?

Well thanks for clearing that up. The manual just says it has a high speed AGP slot so since it didn't say X2 I assumed 1X. When I went back to the manual again to verify I read:
Expansion slots: ISAx2 PCIx5 and AGP x1 and for a moment thought ah hah... oh only one of them duh.

What processor originally was with that MB? Reason I ask is that I currently have a NEC computer PII 400 mhz Pentium, with 100 mhz bus. Using Sisoft Sandra (as this damn NEC didn't include any mb manuals) it states that my MB type is "Intel Corporation 82443BX/ZX 440BX/ZX". Now, assuming Sisoft Sandra is correct, I have the 440BX motherboard, and since I'm considering upgrading to a Duron 900, if I can expand this motherboard without spending any additional money, I might do that.

Secondly, Sandra stated that the AGP bus version is 1.0. What confuses me is that the Current Data Transfer Rate is 2X. So, which one is correct, when I look at videocards with AGP 2x minimum standards (Hercules Kyro II)??

You'll be able to use pretty much any video card you like with that system. And yes - BX motherboards have AGP x2. The V5 will work fine but a much better alternative is a GF2 GTS, and it should fall right in your price range.

I have one in my system and it works great. :)
