Upgrading video card

Koudelka

Senior member
I currently have an x800 Pro. I'm looking to upgrade to either the x800 XT PE or the 6800U. All i do is hardcore gaming, and cost doesnt matter. My current specs are:

AMD64 3500+
ATI x800 PRO
1gig Corsair XMS Extreme Dual Channel DDR pc3200
ASUS A8V Deluxe

So, basically.. which is the better card to upgrade to when i only play games? i've always used ATI cards, but everytime i see a benchmark for a new game coming out.. nVIDIA seems to take the lead. Recommendations?

Thanks in advance!!

can i ask why you got the x800pro if you were just going to upgrade again? wase of cash IMO.

nvidia 6800Ultra extreme if price is no limit.

Nick, from your recent posts i've seen, you seem to be a pretty big d*ck when it comes to people talking about upgrades. Or, you're just a poor nobody who can't afford upgrades. If people can afford to upgrade whenever they so choose to, why do you hate them may i ask? Keep the crappy comments to yourself when people are asking for advice. Nobody wants to hear them.

Hah. I would get the 6800 GT. Especially if you're a Doom fan. Check the topic on the Id' offical benchmarks of the retail game. X800 doesn't do justice.

a poor nobody? who do you think you are talking down on people like that? there is NO WAY my comment about your "upgrade" being unworthy of a purchase was half as severe. and if you want to follow my trail of over 7k posts, i think you will find that ive helped countless people configure a PC. im blunt when i need to be, such as someone upgrading from a X800pro to a 6800 or the X800XT. i come from a household where i had a job since i was 13 and im working my way through college, so maybe i value the dollar more than you. if it makes you feel great calling me poor, then so be it. i feel sorry for you if that makes you feel better inside. maybe someday i can be rich like you so i can look down on others and i can have the same tingly fuzzy feeling inside.

Nick merely asked why he was replacing an X800pro... He didn't say, "OMG you idiot why would you do that you're so stupid I hate you and you're rich and I hope you wreck your ferrari on a BBQWATERMELON." He asked a legitimate question, and answered the guy's question. You're the one that went off the deep end attacking nick for no reason.

In case you didn't get it by now...

I did flip, and i completely apologize. I had no right to do so. I'm not rich, myself, either. I'm 20 years old right now and paying my way through college. I've got nothing else to spend my extra money on and i just enjoy playing games. I thought you were directly attacking me, and you meant to be rude when you asked why i was doing it, like i was an idiot. I dont plan on upgrading until around late October early November. I bought the x800 PRO because i need something to play Doom3 and FarCry on at the moment.

Anyhow, advice much appreciated. I've just always used ATI cards and never had any problems but i've been dissapointed everytime i read previews and reviews on games that are configured to run better on nVIDIA cards more efficiently.

Also, i'd never brag about something like that to people i dont know. I dont see the point in doing something like that 😕. I dont have a lot of money, i just dont have to support a family, pay many bills, and i live with my parents while going to college. What little money i get i like to spend on my computer and i just like to have lots of reassurance from experienced users that its a good product and i'll be happy with it.
