I want to upgrade the video card in my Dell XPS M1730 laptop. I am stuck between 2 video cards:

Dell XM888 - 1GB nVidia GeForce 8800M GTX SLI Video / Graphics Card
Dell K650M - XPS M1730 2GB nVidia Geforce 9800M GTX SLI Video Card

Now here is the big question... Why would a 2GB video card cost less than a 1GB video card? Has anyone ever upgraded to any of these 2 video cards? I'm currently using RW331 and that's only 512MB. They have it too. Obviously I would rather upgrade to the 2GB but I'm concerned because it cost less. Do these fail regularly? Advice from an experienced XPS M1730 user would be great. Thanks

Let me elaborate:

Any way you can take that money and put together a gaming rig? $400 bucks will get you something decent.

Adding that hardly makes your XPS portable anymore.

Also, I'd get the 9800M as it was the fastest card for the XPS 1730. It's probably priced that way because they are out of production and that's how things roll.

There's no way on earth either of those are remotely worth it.

Something like a 6770 will be better, and you can sell your old XPS and get a whole new unit that will overall run circles around it combining that with the $ you would have wasted on a video card for a 5 year old laptop.

On the bay I see a DV7T, 17.3" 1080P, i7-2630QM, 8GB DDR3, BluRay, 1GB HD6770 + Intel HD Video (uses integrated when not gaming to save power), USB3, 750GB 7200RPM HDD, Subwoofer, etc, for a hair over $700. I've had about a half dozen of the DV6 and DV7 notebooks, and recommended them for about a dozen or so clients, and they've been awesome overall for the money.
