Hello,

I'm looking to upgrade my video card to improve PC gaming with Battlefield 3 in particular. I used to be able to run all of my game on fairly high settings until Battlefield 3 came out and now it's like I'm having graphics shock from having to turn everything down so much for it.:p

According to Fraps I'm only getting about 20-30 frames per second and it occasionally dips below 20 giving noticeable lag.

Soooo, I'm hoping that simply getting a better video card will fix that.

My current system specs are:

Dell XPS 630i
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz 3.01GHz
RAM: 4GB
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce GTS 240
PSU: 750 Watt MAX Model DT50E
64-bit Operating System

Not sure what all information is need so let me know of anything else I might need to provide.

I was looking to spend around $150-$200 on a new card and I'm eyeing up the Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 seen here at Newegg

I know the basics but I'm not real skilled at the insides of a computer so I'm wondering if there are any compatibility issues with that card? If none, is it a decent card for the money that will hopefully pick my frames up a good bit?

Thank you in advance!

Assuming your using the stock power supply that came with the machine the safe bet would be a 6670.

http://www.hwcompare.com/10733/geforce-gt-240-gddr5-vs-radeon-hd-6670-oem/

The above link shows performance and power usage numbers with a 6670 using a tad bit less power and DX11.

If your power supply was replaced or you aim to replace it with a quality unit with that old dual core a 6850 or gtx460 would be a good choice.

BF3 is demanding on the cpu so a quad is a must but i'm gonna be picking up a gtx460 myself this week to match up with a oced e8200.

Crap, knew I forgot something in my specs.

Stock PSU is a 750 Watt MAX Model DT50E. What wattage PSU would I need to run a 560 or 460?

You're fine with either. The Hawk would be a nice match for your system and a huge upgrade from your current card.

Thanks for the replies so far guys!

On that 460's reviews on Newegg, I've been reading that MSI has been ripping people off on the rebate deal. Can anyone here confirm that?

Is that 460 up to par or close to the performance of the 560? I don't mind spending the little bit of extra cash for the 560 if it performs better. Is there something that makes the 460 better besides the cheaper price?

Is one more compatible with my system than the other?

I'd like to place an order today and I'm just trying to decide last minute between the 460 or the 560 seen below.

GTX 560: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130661

GTX 460: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127518

EDIT:
To add to the confusion, I would even consider paying an extra $30-$40 for this 560Ti that I found on Newegg listed for $219 or $199 after rebate.
GTX 560Ti: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125401

So, sorry to sound like such a noob here but would that be even better than the other two and still be compatible with my system?

Thanks!

Then go with the ti if you dont mind the money. I would rather have the ti over my current 460. I think the 460 listed is a great deal, but the 560ti is really really nice. Its a decent step up and it should do better with BF3.

Not sure about the MSI rebate issues - that would sour the deal if it were true. Without a rebate involved you can get a GTX 560 for about $10-$20 more than a GTX 460. It will overclock higher and more easily than a GTX 460 (and use a little less power clock for clock doing it). I'm an overclocking nimrod and I have my GTX 560 set to 930/1860/2200 without touching the voltage (and it could probably go a bit higher). A GTX 460 would be hard pressed to get passed 850 Mhz without a voltage tweak. To me that's worth a little bit more.

Yeah, get a Ti if you can afford it.

The 560 is a 460 clocked to 810/1620/4000 -- though this particular one is 850/1700/4100. The Hawk is a 460 clocked to 780/1580/2600. The 560 may be using better chips, but I'm guessing that current 460s are on a much better process as well. (My OC 460 is running at a much lower voltage than what the original reviews reported.)

I wouldn't pay an extra $60 for the 10% difference unless the rebate is, in fact, bad. The Windforce ti is really nice, though. If you want Batman, it's a nice deal.
