I've upgraded processers without having to do a new install before, but in the past its always been an identical series processor, just faster (1400 xp to a 2400+ xp, etc). Not sure if it would be any different with a different series, especially since the new one is a dual core.

i dont believe so. Just driver fixing. be sure to install amd's dual core drivers...and the new motherboard's drivers (if needed) usually nvidia nforce drivers these days (dont install 4 if your mobo is 3 ect...lol just tossed it out there ive seen it done..dude was having all kinds of problems LoL anyway >.>)

everything should be fine.

Upgrading is very easy, but make sure:

- you have the latest bios and it supports the X2

- after Windows detects the X2, reboot and then install the AMD X2 driver

That's it, you're good to go!
