Upgrading to vista a good idea?

Right now I have Windows XP Pro SP2. I can get Vista Ultimate cheap.

However, I don't want to do a clean install right now.

Would a simple Vista upgrade work well for me?

Or should I just wait until I can do a full install?

^ yes dual boot and see for urselg. an upgrade option is always there... but i personally prefer clean installs 🙂

I may just install Vista unless I can fix my current XP setup.

I posted a problem in the computer help section. If I can't fix it I will have to reinstall windows and may as well try Vista!

As others have said, dual-boot Vista and XP (if you get XP working again) for now to see if you even like Vista, but if you do end up keeping it, I would recommend a clean install.

Yep, im also planning on doing a dual boot. Question: Am i going to have any problems with this if i use Vista Enterprise x64 and XP Pro x32? Im purchasing yet another HD (case will be maxed with 5 drives) for this install so i wont have to partition an existing drive.

Why dont you buy OEM version? Even if wou wolud like to transfer OS in future its still cheaper to buy 2 OEM Vista DVDs than 1 retail (BOX) version.

This is one of the perks of being an underpaid academic. My copy of Enterprise x64 was dropped into campus mail today. Cost? $0.00 🙂
