any point for me to upgrade to DX9 in windows update from DX8 if my video card only supports DX8? i use a Asus V9280VS 128MB Ti4200.

There are games out there that use the DX9 API, so you will need the update in those cases. But often times heavy pixel shader use and other DX9 specific features haven't been utilized, so you will be in the clear when it comes to DX8 hardware.

Yes there is a great reason. It is called security. There is a security hole in all versions of DirectX (except version 9.0b). All I have is an ATI Radeon 8500, which is a DirectX 8 card. So I upgraded to fix the security hole.

Flight Simulator 2004 is an example of such a game, as we determinted in another thread. 🙂
