:confused:Hi everybody. This is my first time Posting here. I need some help setting up my wireless internet connection. Recently I got Cable internet from Comcast. Before that I had DSL with SBC. Comcast sent me a cable Modem and I hooked it up to my desktop computer, but I also have a laptop and would like to be able to access the internet wirelessly through it. I have a Router that Sbc sent me when I had Dsl and I was able to use my laptop wirelessly throught it. I want to know if there is anyway I could setup the SBC router through my cable modem, so I could access the Internet through my laptop wirelessly. The SBC router model Number is 1701HG Gateway. If not. What do I need to buy in order to get wireless internet to my laptop. Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.

Welcome to AT Network fFrum.

Unfortunately the 1701HG Gateway is a combo Modem/Router.

Since in this type of units the Modem part is Hard Wired to the Routing part, it cannot be used as a standalone Router.

Cable Modem and DSL Modems are not the same and there is No way to connect the Cable Modem to this unit.

It means that you need to buy a regular Wireless Cable/DSL Router.

P.S. It is not a big lose the 1701HG goes on eBay for $10.;)
