Is it possible to upgrade the video chip in a notebook, or is it generally soldered in? The ATI Rage Mobility looks nice, but I just bought a notebook that didn't come with a Rage Mobility.
I've got an HP Omnibook 900B with the 4MB "ATI Rage P/M Mobility AGP 2x" chipset and I don't notice any difference between this and my old notebook which had a 2.5MB NeoMagic chipset. Then again, I haven't done anything that stresses the video subsystem apart from playing DivX and DVD movies. One thing I did notice was that DivX movies played noticeably smoother. Does anyone know if OpenGL or DirectX games will work on this chipset under Win2K?
