I?m going to making this upgrade soon and am wondering what to do with the drivers. I know it?s almost a necessity to totally remove everything when switching to different to say an ATi to an Nvidia. Is it necessary to do the same when going from an original Radeon to an 8500? Or would it be ok to simply uninstall the drivers from the control panel and just do new install after reboot?

Better to be safe now than sorry later. Just uninstall everything you had before putting in the new card.
Well, of course if you are in need of some headache......:p

So, you think I should go in and try to clean up left over files after the ATi driver uninstall?

I'm betting you should be okay just uninstalling the drivers, as ATi uses a universal driuver scheme so the same drivers can be used for both cards.
