Ok, I have a d70s that I have had for a few years and am thinking about getting a d90.

Just wondering from people who have or have not upgraded what they think?

What extras am I getting for the money?
Is a few extra MP and some nice features worth it etc etc.

I do mostly sports and nature photography, but am hoping to branch out into portraits as well.

thanks for any help you can give

I've seen used D90 bodies on Craigslist for $750. Even new ones are occasionally that cheap when a good deal comes along. Your D70s in good condition is worth about $275-$300, so the net upgrade cost for you is about $450. So what does $450 buy you?

1) 6MP --> 12MP; a significant resolution jump.

2) Highly improved high-ISO performance. The D90 is easily 1.5 stops better than the D70s, maybe more depending on the situation.

3) Live view; self-explanatory.

4) Video; if that's your thing.

5) 3" VGA LCD; you won't want to use anything less after having one.

6) Sensor cleaning

7) Much better battery life

8) 3D-tracking AF

9) D-Lighting, Vignette Control, Chromatic Aberration Correction, Custom Picture Controls

10) Faster FPS (4.5FPS) and larger buffer

It's a great camera; I've had mine for almost 4 months now.
