I am currently running the following system:

- AMD Phenom Quad 9850 overclocked to 11.8GHz
- MSI K9A2 platinum 790fx motherboard MS – 7376 VER 1.0
- ATi Radeon Visiontek HD 3870X OC 512mb video card PCI Express, D/D/T Serial
- Crucial Ballistix 2gb 1066MHz ram (5-5-5-15 2.0v)
- Raidmax ATX12V Power 500 watt power supply Model: No. RX-500S

I have those in an Antec 900 case. However, I would like to get a better graphics card but not to familiar with the top ones on the market now.

Can anyone help me upgrade to a better card? At this point i am willing to spend up to $200 on a good card.

regards

Oh, and get a new power supply. Raidmax 500w is, literally, dangerous for your system and quite possibly cannot handle a newer video card.

Holy smokes!!! What kind of cooling are you using? :hmm:

If you need to get a card now, some GTX 460 /1gb variant would be my choice. If you can wait 30-45 days, check out the new Radeon 6xxx series, and get either one of them or GTX 4x0 or Radeon 58x0 after price drops.

If you don't feel like waiting 1 month until HD6870 launches (or $200-$250 mid-range ATi card), then MSI cyclone / Gigabyte GTX or EVGA GTX460 1GB are the best cards you can get at $200. I also suggest you get another 2GBs of ram because 2GBs is not cutting it.

The best deal going in the midrange is either the 5770 @ 109AR or the GTX460 1GB @ 159 (sold out, Gamestop) or 768MB version @159AR. Personally I would pick the GTX460 1GB if you needed a card right now and game at 19x12 or higher. If you only go up to 16x10 then the 5770 or 768MB version may be enough depending on how insistent you are in maxing settings. If you can wait, you may want to see how 6xxx impacts prices, as it may drive down prices for everything in the midrange bracket.

!st of all what is your Phenom really clocked at? I'd go with the GTX 460 1GB's also. They overclock like madmen. If you're an ATI fan then why not wait for the next-gen Radeon HD 6xxx parts? They're coming out very soon.

How good is it at what?

Here's a comparison of the 3870 vs the current ATF card of choice in your price range:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/179?vs=180

Better as compared to nvidia geforce cards...

Either you are being obtuse, or my question wasn't clear enough. So I re-phrase the question:

You asked how good your card was (compared to Nvidia cards), but the answer depends on what you do with it, or how you test it e.g.
1. How good at a particular game (please specify game title and gaming resolution).
2. How good at movie editing (please specify software).
3. How good at a synthetic benchmark (please specify, e.g. 3dMark 06, Vantage, )

Hold out until October 18th when the ATI Radeon HD 6000 series comes out.

Then your options will really open up at your price range.

There's a chance that your cpu may bottleneck your new card.. but it also depends on what resolution you're playing on.

16x10 get a 5770
19x10/12 get a GTX460 (either a 768mb or 1GB doesn't matter)
