Upgrading to 9800gt, will I be CPU limited by a e4300?

My setup

C2D e4300 (not overclocked)
2gb Corsair XM2
9800gt

Want to play Crysis / Fallout 3 etc. .

Will I be CPU limited? Would overclocking the e4300 be enough or should I upgrade? If I do upgrade would a e7300 be plenty of CPU?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

stock E4300 will limit you.
Sell your C2D for $30.00 so that you cost of upgrade to the new processor will be lower.
Also, make sure that your motherboard supports 45nm (Wolfdale) cored C2Ds.
In addition, why wouldn't you try to o/c the E4300 a bit? Mine hit 1066MHz fsb with ease on default v core.
2.4 GHz E4300 should be enough to be able to play Crysis (mine was)...

yes seond the prev poster. either you get a better CPU at stock like e8400/8500/8600s or just overclock it to 3 or so.

Overclock your e4300 to at least 3 ghz and you'll be fine for that 9800GT.

Silly people. My x2 3800+ @ 2.6ghz chugs along just fine in fallout 3. Crysis being the gpu whore it is will not be bottlenecked much by a e4300. Having that said, those e4300's should OC pretty easily, to at least 2.6ghz on stock cooling. Give it a try?

Thanks for the suggestions folks!

I've never overclocked before. It seems easy enough. I need to bite the bullet and give it a try.

thanks again

oh if you are overclocking, you need to get a new after market cooler like Xigmatec S1283. don't want you to burn anything out.

No, that cpu should handle the 9800gt nicely, unless you play CPU heavy games (Supcom COH etc)

I had an E4300 before I replaced it. At stock running 1280x1024 my favorite MMO I had to turn all the graphics down to low. With the faster cpu I can play the game on high.

He doesn't NEED a new cooler. The stock HSF will limit his max OC for sure, but you should still get a decent boost.

I have an old AMD X2, even at stock 2.2Ghz it's more than enough to run most games at max settings. Would I have better performance with an 45nm Intel chip? Absolutely. But when gaming at 1600x1200 there's more of a gpu bottleneck than anything else.

running my 9800gt on AND X2 2.2 GHZ as well and 4x 512mb DDR ram, I can run everything but crysis on high with reasonable to great frames.
