upgrading to 3.0 + jailbreaking + keeping previous settings intact

I have a 1st gen Touch which I have spent a lot of time customizing UI wise. I know when you upgrade you lose your stuff and have to jailbreak again. I did Google and didn't find exactly what I was looking for. If I FTP in and back up my themes and appdata directories can I just upload them after I Jailbreak and have it back to how it is now? I have a good 2 dozen apps off Cydia installed and would hate to have to start clean. But I bought a few games that require 3.0 so I guess it's time to upgrade.

Looks interesting, it doesn't actually back up the settings but still cool. Getting all the apps back with 1 click would be a great start. A shame some games require 3.0, I don't think there are any new features in 3.0 I can't live without, oh well.

there's AptBackup and Appbackup, one backs up App store stuff and the other backs up Cydia, took me a minute to figure out why the program was only backing up App Store apps. I installed both and ran the 3.1.2 firmware update. Saved me A LOT of time on Cydia, re-downloading all my apps manually would have took me a good while. Thanks for pointing it out GhettoFob I would have never found this on my own 🙂

AWESOME post alfa147x too bad I just completely wiped my Touch and am starting from scratch, the appbackup/aptbackup didn't work well. But a clean start is probably better any ways. I don't even know if all my Cydia apps support 3.0, I somehow doubt it.

yeah i backed up all those folders then after getting my new phone decided that it was time for a clean install

the 3.1.2 update kind of sucks, no more double tap of the home button to get volume control??? Now I have no way to control my sound level when I'm playing a game. Googling this, it seems to not be fixable, that was one of the things I used the most on mine too 🙁
