upgrading the cpu in laptops?

spanky

i got the $500 laptop from best buy on black friday, and i am pretty happy with it. however, would it be worth it to swap out the celeron m and put in a pentium m? would it even be possible? since celeron m's lack speedstep, would simply upgrading to a pentium m improve my battery life? the only reason i inquire is because i read that pentium m laptops have significantly better battery longevities.

I bought a Pentium M 1.7 off of ebay for my $500 BB Toshiba and it works well. HAd it installed in about 15 minutes. Noticeable increase in speed, but what's more noticeable is how much cooler it runs! This is probably due to the fact that it has all the speedstep functions while on the celery they're disabled. HAven't been able to measure battery life yet, but tomshardware did a test and showed almost an hour improvement difference between the P-M and the Celery-M. Now where do I sell a 1.4ghz Celery? 😉
