Yeah i know i have answered this question a million times too but i want some outside opinion too. Please no flaming, i know most people are sick of answering this question but like i said i need an outside opinion too. I was thinking HDD then Memory... or HDD and then wait... and then wait.... and then wait... and then buy Nforce 4 with DDR2 and the whole works (probably wait until Q1 or Q2 next year)

What part of my system is screaming upgrade right now?

Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe

AMD AXP 2500+ Barton (unlocked version) @ 2100mhz

1x 512mb of Kingston Value RAM (DDR333 @ DDR400 @2.8Volts)

MSI 5900XT-VTD128 video card (5900XT w. VIVO Oced to Ultra speeds)

Soundstorm Audio

Logitech Z-640's

KDS Visual Snesations 19" monitor

20gig 7200RPM WD HDD

Thermalright SLK-947U w/Panaflo 12L

Foxconn Allied PSU 400Watt

I think that is about everything you guys need to know

y does he need to upgrade the speakers 1st? thats pretty dumb since it doesnt enhance the system up at all by performance. i say go wtih the harddrive and then memory. i would recommend you overclock your cpu to 2.2GHz if you can, or maybe your memory is holding you back from a higher overclock. otherwise, if you upgrade the memory and harddrive, your system will be up and running at high quality under 1024x768 in doom 3. :) your system isnt all that bad right now.

Well i wanted to get a Raptor but i dont really want to blow 200$ or 112$ on a HDD. What the other alternatives for <100$'s Im looking for quiet yet fast.

Also anything else need upgrading.

And how about waiting for Nforce 4 should i just pray that 512mb of memory will hold and wait for nforce 4 in which i will use DDR2.

1) Memory - nothing else helps like memory.
2) Hard drive - at least 80GB, 120 woild be better .
(you won't see that much from a 10,000 RPM Raptor)

Good i THINK i am going to get that drive. I assume it will be a whole hellof a lot quieter than my Ancient 7200RPM WD 20gig PATA drive. Also i assume it will be worlds faster. Willinotice the speed differenfe at all like amount of time it takes for windows to boot.

Outpost has the ata100 version of that drive on sale for $89-40 rebate at the moment too, would consider going that route to save the $40. I dont think you're going to see a massive perceptible increase from the SATA over the ata100 and that $40 savings would be well spent towards another 512 mb of ram.

Seagate @ outpost

OMG... why did you have to show me that. I was gonna happily buy the SATA version and be done with ti but that is very cheap and very good deal.

Well i still kinda want to get SATA and make the transition?

Well for both of these cards will i notcies a speed, and noise differenc efrom my current drive? Also which one is better in the LONG run.

Well they ranout of 120GB drives at fry's. So i could get the 160gb. Is that just as quiet, and just as fast? Also it is 69.99 would it be better for me to just get the SATA version at newegg.

The main concern with the SATA drive is this... i need 2 questions answered.

1. Is this drive loud enough to hear from about 5 feet away in a running system... basically is it loud enough to aggravate you when you try to go to sleep at night.

2. Am i going to notice a speed difference when i upgrade?
