Well I did it I bought some pieces from for sale/trade to upgrade my old system..
my aging 754 setup 3000A64 2 gigs of kingston value ASUS K8N-E with a PNY 6800GT that was starting to die...
this system has a 450watt PS antec i beleive..

i got coming
A8N-SLI Deluxe with the premium heatpipe on it.. (arrived already needs a SLI bridge if anyone knows where I can get one)
A64 3700 no cooler on way
EVGA 7800 GT CO

questions are CPU needs a cooler which to get...
how much power is this rig gonna need for optimum output? (i have an antec 450) and i do plan on going SLI with another 7800GT CO as soon as possible.
and is this mothboard as picky with its ram as other ASUS boards have been?

Ive got 8 gigs (8 1 gig sticks) of Samsung 3200 DDR400 registered ECC that wont run in my other 2 Asus systems but work fine in other machines... even though those boards say they support ECC ram.. I would like to use 4 gigs of this ram in the new system if possible..

the 450w should be enough but getting 500w to be safe isn't stupid

don't get the 7800gt...get the 7900gt. it's better than the 7800GTX. why do you have 8 gigs? you can stick 4 gigs in but it won't help you

ive already bought these items... the 7800 GT was dirt cheap used from here on FS... i could not touch a 7900 for what i got my card for =P and the reviews of the card i got said it already beats the GTX in several tests anyway.... and the difference between the 7800 GT CO and the 7900 GT CO is very minimal..
not worth the 100 buck difference.. espceially with the insane prices people are selling evga 7800s in for sale/trade =P

I have 8 gigs becasue i deal in alot of systems and we just replaced 200 8 gig machines with 16 gigs in each of our Linux workstations...

I kept some of the ram i have 8 sticks of this stuff.

dont want it to go to waste unless it wont work..
I can always sell these... they are 8 1 GB sticks..
