Upgrading (Swapping) Notebook Hard Drive

Does anyone have any advice to upgrade/swap a notebook hard drive? I would like to retain my existing OS/data without having to reinstall everything.

Caveats... I only have a single notebook and it only supports one internal drive. Also, I would like to avoid buying an external enclosure.

Thanks.

External USB enclosures for 2.5" HD's are only like $10+s/h at Newegg, surely you can afford that...

I have this exact model and have used it for over a year now with no problems on several laptops.

Use the enclosure then download Acronis Trueimage to do an exact mirror of your drive. Works without a hitch. Do NOT use Norton ghost -- they are running a scam that advertises the same but leave your drive literally hanging when you try to boot.
