Upgrading soundcard

Hi, this is probably a very newbie-ish question, so please bear with me.

I have the onboard RealTek AC97. Is it worthwhile to upgrade to SoundBlaster Live 24-bit? I am not a demanding audiophile. I am just wondering if the quality and performance improvement are worth the hassle and the price (~$30) of upgrading?

My speaker is the Altec Lansing ATP3.

For a 2.1 set of speakers like the ATP3, the Chaintech AV-710 is a great value at $25.

It has 3 ok DACs and 1 really great one. You can configure it to use only the great one for 2.1 mode with the latest drivers. You'll get very good 2.1 sound out of it.
