Only thing is, if you're going with Ryzen 3000-series CPUs (Zen 2), then get 3600 DDR4 for maximum performance, and not 3000 DDR4. I understand if budget is a concern, but at least in the USA, there are some kits of 3600 for not more than $10-15 more than 3000 kits.

Edit: Clicking on your RAM kit, has a description of "Made for X99 platform". Might not be the best choice for Ryzen 3000-series.

So I am considering upgrading, its been about 7-8 years since my last upgrade (I think). My current setup is in my signature.

Here is what I am looking at so far:

AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6GHz 6 Core (Socket AM4) CPU
£154.98

MSI B450M MORTAR MAX AMD Socket AM4 Motherboard
£89.98

PromoASUS Radeon RX 580 AREZ 8GB Graphics Card
£149.98

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x 8GB) 3000MHz DDR4
£74.99

Intel SSD 660p 512GB M.2-2280 NVMe PCIe SSD
£67.03

Be Quiet! System Power 9 500W 80+ Bronze PSU
£52.99
90% the same system as me, i have the the 3600x, aorus b450 pro wifi, Crucial 2 x 8gb 3200 CL 16, XFX RX580 8gb.
Using this on a LG 32" 1440P + Dell 24" 1200P

good overall system, but won't be able to handle the latest games on high settings @ 1440p.

Oh, biggest diff is i have a 750W Seasonic Gold PSU (The focus line, which is the "gold" standard), i'd get a higher wattage PSU...

Oh thank you, I did not know that. I am still researching and changing my mind every now and then! I am now thinking of 32gb AM 2x8

Thanks for that. May be I will start looking at better graphics card? My monitor is 2560*1440 so I may as well utilise it.

I went with 2 x 16Gb ram sticks, just in case I wanted to go to 64Gb later. Larry is correct you should go with 3600 sticks. That is the sweet spot for AMD's 3000 series cpus.

And if you up your video card, def need more than 500W psu... you want to operate in the PSU's highest efficiency range.

i'm using a 750w Seasonic Focus Gold w/ my RX580.

Yea I have a feeling I will be upping a few things! While I am not quite a pro gamer or even an enthusiast, I do like to have something decent that works smoothly and fast.

What would you recommend? I seem to be leaning towards AMD for no apparent reason so I am not completely ruling out Intel. Which ever is good!

At this time, Intel's desktop map is a dead end. You are better off staying with AMD on the processor side. The motherboard you have chosen will be upgradeable in the future to even a Ryzen 9 3950x with nothing but a BIOS and cooler upgrade needed (which would be a serious step up in processing power). It is also likely that the upcoming 4000-series Ryzens will work with your motherboard with a BIOS upgrade as AMD has not indicated there will be a socket change from AM4.

If there are any sales, and you can afford it, I'd look at a Nvidia 2060/2070 Super. Recent driver updates have eliminated a lot of the issues with AMD's 5700XTs, but I don't know that I'd buy them with the new consoles and both Nvidia and AMD's next gen graphics cards on the way.

If you can live with the 580 for a few months, you might invest in a next gen card or get a really good deal on a higher end current gen card.
