I am looking to increase the speed on my secondary machine. I am currently running a 333 mhz slot 1 celeron on a Asus P2B 440 BBX board.

I need to know where I can get a quality Slot 1 to Socket 370 adapter card. The ones on Pricewatch are all generic. Or is generic ok?

I also need to know how high I can go with the speed. I see Celeron chips all the way up to 1.1 ghz. I have seen someone overclock a 633 to 1068 on this board with the latest bios.

Thanks.

I would'nt use anything other than an Asus slocket card... the S370-DL model or a similar model that supports 133fsb and coppermine cpus. The quality is superb. I'm using it on my old P2B system right now, with a PIII-850. You can use the highest PIII's running at 1.0 and 1.1GHz both at 100fsb. But there's currently a limitation at 1.0GHz. With the latest P2B bios updates (1014 beta1), there's still a bug that won't let you run the 1.1GHz monster. Look for an article about the P2B on this Anandtech site.... good upgrade info.

Thanks. Any idea where I could buy the Asus model besides Ebay?

I purchased two Asus slotkets for my dual Asus board from a place called Compucheap about 6 months ago. He may still have some, or can get them. Shipping is reasonable and the delivery time is quick.

http://www.compucheap.com

You can also use the MSI 6905, rev. 3. I think PowerUp PC in Houston still carries them. Slotkets for Coppermines are becoming hard to find except on ebay.

Also check FS/FT forum here. Deal with members with good heatware and you'll have successful trade.

I only saw a generic model at Compucheap, but thanks.

I will keep searching the net. For those who know, is a generic model going to make a big difference?

E-mail him and see if he can get Asus slotkets from a distributor.

Stay away from generic ones. Go either Asus, MSI 6905 rev. 3 or even Abit Slotket!!! which is the name of the slotket.

<edit>Iwill made a decent slotket card also</edit>

I got myself a GIGABYTE GA-6R7 pro sloket off EBAY for my ABIT BE6 board. Works great has cumine support (66, 100, 133 fsb) and voltage adjustments from 1.30 to 3.5 v.

Ebay prices around $20 isn't bad at all. It's a good investment if you wanna keep your older systems around. MSI and Abit have slockets too that would work, but the Asus one is the most popular (obviously). Just be careful of the model numbers... you don't want anything except the S370-DL, revision 1.02. And when you do get it, depending on which m/b revision you have, set the vcore voltage to 1.8V on the slocket.
