Hey guys, hopefully I've put this in the right place and hopefully you guys can help me out. I just bought an Inspiron 6000D from eBay, and didn't notice until afterwards that it only had an WXGA screen. I want at least a WSXGA screen, and have been looking on eBay again and found this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-DELL-INSP...92QQcategoryZ42187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

My question is, will this screen work in my Inspiron 6000. It has the same screen size, and belongs in the I6000's predecessor. Please somebody help me out. It is already out of my 21 day return period. Or if anybody else has any other suggestions besides selling and buying another computer, it would definately be helpful, and I would be greatful.

Thanks,

Will

Also, could someone move this to the notebook section for me. Sorry, I was reading another thread in a different window and accidently made a new thread in teh general section.

It probably won't....laptop makers are notorious for screwing with the connectors and they are probably different from this screen to yours. However...you *should* be able to use the data/inverter cable from your screen for this one IF they both have standard connectors for data/inverter.

I figured if it was a Dell to Dell, like in this case, 8600 to 6000, that they would be pretty much the same. I think it would work, but before I spend $200 for it, I just wanted to make sure. It won't fry my mother board or anything will it?

Thanks,

Will

No it won't damage your motherboard. But it may not fit properly.

Basically there are two things to consider. The cable connections...which may or may not be compatible, and also the mounting bracket that is usually on the LCD's on a Dell. It may not have the right screw hole locations for your laptop and your bracket may not fit on that LCD. There isn't much of a standard it seems. So..if you can return it if it doesn't work then you might want to try it but I would make absolutely sure that you can return it.

Can you find a list of Dell parts online? I was wondering if they were maybe in fact the same part number. Or does anyone else have any experience w/ what I'm talking about. It looks to be the same, but I don't know. And there is no return on the screen, so that takes care of that option. Is replacing the screen difficult? If not, i could purchase it and then resale it if it doesn't work. Just a though.

Depending on your computer, replacing the screen can be a challenge for those who have not worked on laptops.

I work on laptops all the time...it's not really that hard but there are several very very fragile cables and parts you are dealing with that can be damaged easily.

Alright, thanks OdiN. I will most likely go for it and see how it comes out. Hopefully it works. I may end up opening it up tonight, and see what my LCD looks like in contract to the one on eBay. If the mounting looks close, I may go ahead with it.

Thanks

Will

ps-if anyone else has anything, I am still checking this thread constantly. This forum seems like a very good place to be a part of. Hopefully I can contribute some information somewhere down the line.

Send the seller an e:mail and ask him to take a picture of just the mounting bracket/ whatever u want to call it. Then compare it to yours.

Yep, just done that a few minutes ago. Also tried calling dell to no avail. They said they couldn't tell me.
