Upgrading SANs

Just a quick feasibility check. Hopefully someone will know.

I've got VNX5100s with 30x3TB SATA drives in each.

How upgradeable are these? I understand that they can have up to 75 bays. Presumably upgrading from 30 to 75 is a field upgrade.

Any vague hints at costs? I was hoping I'd be able to get 10 extra bays + 10x4TB SATA for $10k. Is this realistic?

You've got 2 DAE's with 15x 3TB in each DAE. You'll need to price an additional DAE and 10 4TB disks. Your price seems reasonable from what I've seen from EMC partners.

VNX is very easy to upgrade. Like Cable God mentioned, get a DAE + the drives you need. Make sure the DAE includes the SAS / FC cables you need, plug it all in and power it on. Should be 100% live upgrade also but you might want to window it. Make sure that your unit supports the 4TB drives at the current software level you have installed. If the unit is old enough it might not let you use the disks. Upgrading is fairly easy and as long as you have MPIO configured properly, a no downtime event.
