Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my current internal SSD (Samsung MZVPV512HDGL M.2 PCIE x 4 512GB) for my Asus UX501VW laptop but I'm not able to understand which would be compatible, the current SSD is a discontinued model so I have looked at Samsung PM981 MZVLB512HAJQ M.2 PCIe 3 x4 and Samsung 970 Pro MZ-V7P512 NVMe PCIe Gen 3.0 x4.

The problem, I am skeptical and would like to know if my laptop will support these or if someone could tell me how to know which type is supported, that would be much appreciated.

Thank You

It looks like your current drive is a Samsung SM951 NVMe SSD (the SM951 also came in an AHCI version). So most any M.2 2280 sized NVMe SSD should be compatible as a replacement. You should check if your current drive is single-sided and whether your system has clearance for a double-sided drive, because that could potentially limit compatibility. You shouldn't restrict yourself to shopping just for Samsung replacements; their drives are fast but usually not the most cost-effective these days.

Hi Billy,

Thanks for the reply and explanation, am I understanding correct that I have to open the laptop and pull the SSD out to see if its single-sided or double sided, or is there any other method to know that.

Also my SSD is PCIe Gen 1 x4 (i believe so, unsure) and others are PCIe Gen 3 x4..

Thanks again..
