Hello.

I have HP Compaq elite 8300 with I5 3470 and 8GB Ram in two part

1 : 4GB DDR3 PC3-10700 667 MHz

2 : two of 2GB DDR3 PC3-12800U 800 MHz

and motherboard : Hawlett-Packard model 3396

So the problem is i removed all these RAMs and i bought 16GB RAM 8x2

wich ARE TWO OF G.SKILL RIP DDR3-12800 8GB .also I saw somthing written in the ram
wich is F3-12800CL 10S-8GBXL DDR3-1600-10-10-30 1.50v.
look at this pic

After i put the ram i turn the pc on , i heard sound alarm from the pc but i saw no red light from the lights near to the on button and the screen doesn't work like there is no adapter input, i waited for
1 min then the fan of cpu started to work and sound in his max pwr.

my ques : does the problem from the ram or the motherboard ?
what i should do to make it work , i already know that my PC supports 12800 and 1600MHz and 32GB max

I don’t have experience with that particular machine, but I’d make sure the RAM is installed in the appropriate slots. Also give a CMOS reset a try. If you are unable to find a jumper to do that just unplug the machine from the wall and pull the coincell battery for 10mins or so.

If that doesn’t work I’ll dig up the manual, I got some free time tonight...

Yeah, I would try them both in the white slots, then if that doesn't work try the black slots.

make sure you get them in there good. They should make a noticeable 'click' when you install them correctly.

good luck

There is a coincell battery in the motherboard inside the PC that retains bios settings when power is removed. Removing that will trigger a checksum error effectively restoring settings to default.
Reason I suggest this is because the bios may be trying to apply timings for your old ram, but restoring defaults can mess up things that have been set like boot order and RAID mode, that’s why I say do it last.

to help i think this is the OP's board:

So yes u must populate the white slots first before you can use the black slots.

What do you mean you got a error message of 164mb?
I cant think of anything that would use 164mb, its usually in a a form of (1-2-4-8-16-32-64-128-256).... so it saying 164mb is wierd in general..
