upgrading question (cpu, mobo, ram)

v44

Junior Member
i'm on an old 800mhz amd athlon and its time to upgrade

been waiting for the amd64 3700+ but now thats its out its a tad more money than i expected

i'm looking for a good mobo to go with the amd64 bit processors that i will be able to keep while updating the chip later, im either going to go with the 3700+ or possibly a 3500+
also i figure i should go with the Socket 939? ( for future purposes, unless i'm wrong? =/ )

so basically i need:

1. one of the best amd64 motherboards that can be upgradable
2. 1 gig of top of the line ram
3. a top of the line power supply

btw im a gamer 🙂
if that makes any diff, i just want to be able to run doom3/hl2 with no problems =]

thanks for all the help/suggestions in advance, thats why i came here, you guys are good 😀

thx,
v44

well you need a new video card too then..
and i'd look for some corsair xms ram.. depending on if you are going to OC or not
430w Antec PSU should be plenty

Yes, if you are planning to upgrade, and you don't want a new mobo, you'll probably want socket 939. You will also need a new video card, as already stated.

yeah i'm going to get a new vid card, that i don't need help with =]

so corsair xms ram? and some ideas for the mobo? anyone 😀

thx again
