Upgrading Pentium III

All,

I have a very old (1999-2000) Dell Dimension L733r system, which needs a processor upgrade. Right now it has Pentium III, 730 MHz, PGA370 socket. The PSU in the system is 145W (I think).

I need only 2 upgrades:
1) CPU -> get a new 1.4 GHz PIII
2) Will get new memory - right now it has PC100 SDRAM will upgrade it to PC133.

Questions:
1) With an upgraded bios, can I just plug in a new CPU (1.4GHz) or do I need to check any other compatibility issues?
2) Can a PC133 memory work, if the tech doc that came with the system, says 100MHz in the spec? It does not say anywhere that it does not support PC133.
3) If I need to get a new bios, what is the best resource? Usually bios comes with a motherboard, but since I am not buying a new motherboard here, I wont have the new version bios.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't think you can, the Tualatin S370 P3's aren't directly compatible with the chipsets used for the older Coppermine based cores.

Am already building a Athlon64 X2 system and the components have started coming in. But if I dont upgrade this one before building the other, I will never even look at this PIII system. So want to do it before I start using the Athlon X2 system.

am pretty sure that the PIII 730 MHz is a coopermine core. So does that I can get a higher speed part only if I stick to coppermine core?

Thanks.

Don't bother with the 1.4GHz P3, way too expensive for what it does.
I just upgraded an older Optiplex GX1 to a 1.1GHz Celly (100FSB, CuMine-based), upped the RAM to 512MB (SDRAM can be had pretty cheaply on in the FS/FT area) and replaced the dinky stock 4.3GB Quantum Fireball CR with a firmware-patched Deathstar 75GXP (I like living dangerously :p).

You can get a whole computer from Fry's (typically socket A Sempron) for the price of that CPU alone.

IF you're truely hell bent on upgrading, just toss in a 1GHz PIII CuMine Proc. and up it to 512MB PC133 (2x256MB) or so of RAM (assuming your running Win 2K Pro or above). It may seem a bit faster that way, but once you hop on that new A64 rig, you'll never quite look at that poor biege box the same again.
