A friend called me up last night wanting to upgrade an old gateway so we're gonna gut the parts and build a new system. My question is, what version of Windows should I install? Win98SE, WinME, or Win2k? This machine will not be used for playing any games. Its uses will be regular browsing, email, word processing, etc. The specs may seem a bit overkill for the uses but the parts were so cheap that the difference in prices weren't negligible. Also, a 1ghz Athlon T-Bird 266 won't have any problem running in a brand new KK266 right? I want to put an OS on there that would give them the stability they need so they won't be calling me a lot for tech support. Usually I'd just toss Windows 2000 on but I don't want them getting confused with any little features. Just wondering what I could get for input here. Thanks.

The specs are:

Iwill KK266 Motherboard
1ghz Athlon T-Bird (266)
256mb Crucial PC133 RAM
40GB maxtor hard drive
Plextor 12x cd writer
Some 4mb nvidia card
Random Sound card

Win2k, make him login as a guest,(jk). The performance loss is very minor over Win98 and even better in some areas.
