Upgrading P4 2.4Ghz (533) to P4 3.4Ghz (800)

I currently run a P4 2.4 Ghz (533) with 768Mb of ddr400 ram. I primarily use my PC to encode videos and burn them to DVD's and Vcd's. Needless to say, this process is painfully slow and CPU usage is pushed to the limit. I'm considering an upgrade to a P4 3.4Ghz (800) with hyp-thrd and 1024Mb ddr400 dual channel Ram. In otherwords, I'll be increasing CPU speed by a factor of (3.4/2.4) = 1.42 or 42% and juicing up FSB and Ram.
Based on these upgrades:

If I encoded and burned a DVD on my old system and it took 3.4 hrs, would it take 2.4 hrs if I were to burn the exact same project on the upgraded system? I'm assuming that upgrades to FSB and Ram will have no impact to encoding process.
 
Check the video encoding benchmarks under the CPU tab at the top of this page, but that's a decent rough estimate. You won't get doubling or tripling, more like 40-50%.

If you would like to do editing or other work while the encoding is going on, a dual-CPU or dual-core system might make sense.

One CPU / core will work full time at encoding and while it might not be much faster (2.8 - 3.0 GHz for dual core) the second CPU will be free for other work.
 
If you have an older motherboard (i845 chipset), you will also need to change the mobo in order to get support for dual-channel, hyperthreading and Prescott support.

If you are using a later i865-chipset or i875-chipset board, you might see some immediate improvement by changing your RAM to dual-channel configuration (two sticks of the same size RAM, populated in dimm slots 1 and 3), which you do not have right now since you have two or more dissimilar sticks.

And if your board is overclock-friendly, your CPU can be cranked up to 3gHz or more depending on how good your heatsink is.
