upgrading P4 1.6 Abit BD7 II

ok so I got my 1.6 running at 1.92 and since im upgrading my video card, I wanna upgrade the cpu too, but I dont feel like picking up a new mobo yet. I was thinking maybe getting a P4 2.4B cpu and be able to oc it to 3 gig? since those cpus can be had around $100. ANy others I can consider? Recommendations would be nice. Im upgrading for Doom3 hehe

This will serve as a bump for you, cuz I don't know (currently an AMD kinda guy).

But I think it w/b helpful if you listed your current mobo and ram when asking about cpu upgrade recommendations.

You can get an OEM Pentium 4 2.6ghz (400 fsb) for cheap at Tigerdirect.com. That's provided your motherboard is socket 478. I went from a 1.8Willamette to this 2.6 from Tiger and got a 30% speed improvement - nothing amazing but it should tide me over untill next summer I hope.

Buy the way, if you go with the Tiger Direct cpu don't get the cheap $19.99 Speeze cooler. It doesn't fit old sockets (at least it didn't with mine).
