Upgrading older version of Windows 2000

Does anyone know if you install the service packs (eg SP3) to a really old version of W2K (2 to 3 years old) - will it update everything to the latest version (including the core Kernal of the OS), not just verious drives, patches and bug fixes ?

Not exactly sure what you mean, but yes, if you install Service Pack 3, it will update everything.
