Upgrading old Laptops hard drive ?'s

I have an old Hitachi Visionbook 8000 laptop with a 2.1g Hd was was wondering what all is involved in upgrading it to a larger hd? Any thing I need to look for in particular when shopping for a new or used Hd? I have never worked with a laptop before but plenty with desktops.

Also consider getting a 2.5 to 3.5 interface so you can mirror the drive temporarily with your desktop setup, else you'll likely have to reinstall everything from scratch (which may or may not be a bad thing).
