Hello, do you think this upgrade would work? Please do not discuss the usefulness of these upgrades.
Things I have considered so far:

* There is no information about anyone doing this anywhere on the internet.

* The cards look similar on paper: both use MXM connectors, both are 35W, both are Quadro fx. Both look similar, at least from the pictures I've seen..

* In fact the cards are rather different. One is 2008 the other one is 2010. One is based on ~9600m the other on ~330m. One is 65nm the other 40nm. Quadro fx 880m is ~50% faster.

I am also curious if it'd be possible to upgrade P8600 to T9900 or P9700. I read that people have done it, but cannot understand how that is possible? Die size is different on P8600 and the other two CPUs ?? I would probably choose P9800 if it's possible because it's much faster than P8600 and it's only 3W more.

Are there any VA (MVA PVA) screens available for laptops? Would love to have one!

Thank you, and again, please let's not discuss usefulness of these upgrades, I'm doing this because it feels good, not because it'll change much: i'm primarily a desktop user anyway.

For the cpu upgrade. As long as the cpu is not solder to the motherboard. You should be able to upgrade it to whatever cpu your laptop motherboard can support.

So I found out you PROBABLY can't upgrade Quadro fx 770m to anything much on elitebook 8530w because it only has MXM type 2 connectors and Quadro fx 880m uses type 3. Whatever that means. But for me it means no upgrade.

So the processor is most probably upgradeable. There are already models of 8530w with T9600 and other similar processors so I see no reason for it not to work with something like a P9700 which is 7W BELOW T9600.

Still very curious about VA panels in WUXGA ( 1920 x 1200 ) resolution for 15.4 laptops. They probably don't exist, sadly, as there are no 15.4 HP dreamcolor screens. So... not much to upgrade to sadly.
