Upgrading Notebook Memory

I have a cheap but very well performing ACER 7220, with 1GB ram which came with it. I want to add another giga of memory to increase performance with vista. Can I do it myself? I didnot find any instructions in the user manual, and when tried to open the bottom cover which hides the ram, after opening the screws, still the cover seemed to be locked somewhere. I have never had to take my desktop to a repairman, and I loath to shell out money just because I don't know which screws to open.
It seems the instructions are given in the user manuals.
Can somebody help me getting a user manual for my laptop. I googled with no success. Maybe some good soul can come to my rescue.
 
There shouldn't really be any screws to stop you. A lot of laptop have 2 separate areas for RAM. One is located under the keyboard and the other underneath. You need to check if there is already ram in both slots in order to know where to install. Most likely its just a tab you push aside to release the little memory door. It shouldn't really be locked down in any way. Check your manual again or online.
 
Actually I meant a 'Srvice manual' which gives detailed instructions about such taking apart and installations. Thanks for your help.
 
The detailed instructions are on page 97 of your User Guide. There are at least two, maybe 3 screws involved. The cover then has a tab and must be lifted from the side without the tab. It should not be locked down.

If you need more detail, then you may have to buy a service manual.

It turned out to be very simple in the end. I decided to go to the computer shop where I bought the laptop. the man said he will not charge for the installation, only the ram. Actually it was only amatter of confidence. The user manual showed the ram cover location. My problem was that I was unsure why the cover was not coming out even after unscrewing. The man told me taht it is typical of all acers. the cover comes out after a lot of persuation with a screw driver. Once ram was exposed, it was only a simple matter of replacement.

Good move! This makes a great point - sometimes it is better to buy locally from a competent and knowledgeable dealer rather than on line. 🙂
