I'm asking for advice on a new video card. Currently I have a geForce256, but i'm looking for a mid-range card. Which is the best card out of these 2? (without considering price)

Radeon 7500 64mb
geForce4 MX 440 64mb

Matter of opinion but GF4 MX440 better supports DX9.....Better yet go with ATI 9100

mx400 all the way

I think it has been asked a few times this week already. You may be able to get something a little better than that, what is your price range as in mid range? If you spend up to $100, you can get a Radeon 9200 or something.

Nah wait for the 256mb version to hit the streets...I mean if your gonna spring for a
MX440 or a Radeon 7500 then you might as well spend couple more bucks.

You could pick up a Crucial ATI powered 9100 for $83 shipped 2nd day air from here. Assuming you live in the continental USA. Crucial also offers a 7500 version for $51 shipped. I have always liked their ram, would not be afraid to try a video card from them.

One has to be careful when choosing a Geforce 4 MX 440 or an ATI 7500. Both of those cards are available in "ubercheap" models, but come equipped with SDRAM rather than DDR, hence their performance is severely limited by their bandwidth. Make sure the cards you are considering come with DDR ram. The Crucial card I mentioned earlier does come with DDR for $51 shipped. If you are considering a Geforce 4 MX 440SE with SDRAM, the old Geforce 2 GTS Pro will outperform it, likewise for the ATI Radeon 7500 with SDRAM.

Spend the extra $20 and get a Sapphire Radeon 8500LE 64MB. This card will put both of those to shame.

LOL. At least someone caught that. No, they are low end cards. 9100 could be considered a low-mid-range card.

At NCIX.com

Sapphire 9100 64MB DDR 250/230 ? ?$69
Sapphire 7500 64MB DDR 270/183 ? ? $63
ATI retail 7500 64MB DDR 290/230 ? ?$78

The 9100 will be close to 50% faster than even the retail 7500.

I wouldn't consider them that low end, not while TNT 2 M64's are still being marketed and systems are still being sold with Intel Extreme (ly lame) and Savage onboard graphics. Maybe the 9100 would be mid-range and the 7500 and Geforce 4 MX DDR cards as "upper low" range. I suppose the geforce 3 cards would be mid-range as well, ouch!

Just thought I?d mention that if you?re looking on THG charts for a 9100, you won?t see it. 9100?s are newer and are just renamed 8500LE?s.

I was thinking exactly the same thing - 440 and 7500 are high-lowend cards. LOL
