Upgrading my S939 using a S12 430 PSU

well, i have seen lots of talk about ppl looking to upgrade their S939 without having to jump to the AM2

currently i have a AMD 64 3000+, 6600GT, 2*512 ram and my seasonic s12 430 psu

im basing prices from newegg

i cant figure out how the opterons stack up to the X2s, specifically the opteron 170 to the X2 4400+

im not too hardcore into games anymore, so im fine with my 6600GT for the moment

ANY SUGGESTIONS/COMMENTS??

The Opteron's have more cache so you will see a bit of an improvement but generally you can compare the clock speed of the Opteron to the Athlon X2's and expect similar performance.

Your 430 watt S12 will have you covered for just about any upgrade aside from ultra-high-end SLi or Crossfire configurations.

cool. thanks for the fast reply

In that case, i will probably consider gonig with the X2 4400+ (over the opteron 170) w/ the 2 * 1MB L2 as opposed to the X2 4600 which just has the higher clock and lower cache

...i always heard the opty oc'd better, but im going to OC heavily, if at all
