upgrading my dads rig to dual core

my dad wants his machine upgrading so i have lined up another gig of ram, a Athlon 64 X2 and possibly a new GPU.

ill probably source all of these from ebay.

the MSI K8N SLI platinum will probably need a bios update to be compat with the X2 and SLI'ing is out of the frame because theres an ATi number in there now.

so if i swap the processor (A64 3200+) for say a A64 X2 4400+ will i need to reinstall windows?
 
I wouldn't think so. If it's just a CPU upgrade you should have no problem iirc (though I'm hoping someone will chime in here with any info about that X2 patch for XP incase it doesn't see the other core... anyone?).
