Upgrading Motherboard

You don't have to, but most will say it's a good idea. Search through the "how to's" on the main page, there are instructions on how to swap mainboards without a format. When I changed from an NF2 board to a ULI chipset and an Opteron, all I did swap it and boot up, windows installed all the new drivers and it's been rock solid ever since.

^^^ Agree. I've heard it can't be done with XP, but I have pulled it off at least 3 times with no problem at all. The best way I have found is to go into device manager and uninstall all hardware except IDE and/or SCSI controllers. Don't reboot in between, do it all at once and turn off. Once you make the swap turn it on and windows will do it's thing. You may have to reboot several times, and manually install new chipset drivers, etc. I have never noticed a performance or stability decrease doing this either.
