Upgrading Motherboard - Is a format required????

I just bought an Asus A7V8X and an Athlon XP 2000 and I am building the system. I was just wondering whether I need to format my hard drive which still has Windows 2000 from my old system. Is a whole Re-installation required for me to upgrade successfully or can I just use the same windows and re-install the drivers???
HELP!!!
