I have a machine that is running Fedora 3. I have it set up just like I want it, but I want to install a new motherboard. Is there a procedure that I can follow in order to keep my current installation, or would I be better off reinstalling everything?

Are you still using the default kernel? Then yes. You might need to reconfigure a few things, but it should boot up to a usable state.

OK, no problems at all. I had to configure my video card and onboard LAN, but that was it.

So did you have to call in and get it activated again? Linux is so difficult sometimes. :p

Yes, it took a while. I had to find my CD code and then type in the activation number that the RedHat representative gave to me.

Ok, actually, I am having some problems and need some assistance. A screen pops up during boot and goes through the hardware changes. It asks me if I want to remove the old hardware and configure the new hardware. It keeps timing out or something. After about 30 seconds, the program exits and goes back to the screen that lists (in text form) what is happening during the boot. And it just hangs there. Can I increase the timeout or something on this utilit?

it has a timeout if you don't reply anything....but are you having a problem with getting rid of old hardware and configuring new hardware?

Yep, it will timeout in the middle of the configuration process. Always right around 30 seconds, no matter what step I am at....

Well, i was never able to solve the timeout problem. so, I logged into fc3 and opened a terminal window as SU. I then browsed to /usr/sbin and typed in ./kudzu, then typed in kudzu. Kudzu ran fine from here. I removed my old hardware and configured my new hardware.

I just did the motherboard swap thing, different nforce2 chipset motherboards on RH9.

I had to call tech suupport and beg for reativation, give them a credit card number, and my firstborn child's social security number for future reference. You know, that family debt serf/lord relationship thing. It's all good now, they telnetted in and authorized the change.

I saw that hardware screen in my fedora3 boot fly bye. by about the third time I had seen it I had read enough information to quickly press a button before it could fly bye again. once you got to the second screen it slowed down a little.
