Hello all,

I am looking to upgrade my system. I was debating on whether or not to go to a 1Gz TB. Or overclock a 800 TB. What memory should I get...do I need cas 2? ...or can I get generic 133 cas3? Will most likely get the MSI k7t pro2A. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

TIA,
MasterM

If you are planning on overclocking, better RAM is almost always a necessity. Some 'generic' chips do work quite well, but it's pretty much a gamble whether or not you will get lucky. As for getting a 1Ghz Tbird or an 800Mhz one, in almost every instance you won't notice a difference, especially since you're very likely to be able to get that 800Mhz up to 1Ghz without much trouble. Of course, if you're a speed junkie like me, then getting the 1Ghz and overclocking it to 1.2Ghz or higher can be lots of fun.. :)

I would go for a 800 T-Bird & an MSI K7T PRO2-A. That's what I ordered last week ;).

For the price difference go for the 1gig T'bird. Getting my 800 up to speed was a pain in the bios. However if you like the challenge grab the 800 and go for it. My ram is in my specs, but just don't expect to run the FSB up to 133 no matter how good the stick is. You'll have to unlock it and get some of the gain through the multiplier.
