I have been looking at the Z60M. My thinkpad has served me well in the past and I wanted to stick with IBM. I also wanted a 15.4" wide screen. Luckily they just made this bad boy. I am by no means a gamer, I use the laptop mainly for development and office tasks. I will go in heavy on the ram and go with the 1280x900 screen. I noticed the big price jumps are with the video cards. I would be fine with the integerated intel graphics BUT I would like to know what options I have if I want to upgrade.

I know newer laptops offer the ability to swap out graphics cards. Does anyone know if this laptop does it? Has anyone done it? It would save me a bundle right now and I could upgrade later if I felt the need. Anyone?

I think you should be able to do some upgrades with the dell inspiron 9300 and the XPS , since they are basically the same thing (and some alienwares but they are not really laptops at 13 lbs). But by the time you are ready to upgrade your graphics, your CPU, RAM and your hard drive is going to be too old. I would wait for the yonah (the next generation pentium M with dual cores) to come out, and then buy something. It should be here in a few weeks.

90% of all laptops come from Taiwan, 50% from 2 manufacturers. They are almost all the same quality, much like a Saab is a Subaru, and a Pontiac is a Cadillac is a Chevrolet, and an AUDI is a VW etc etc. Re-badge-ing is the way of the future. But I do agree, that my X41 feels better quality then my wife's Inspiron.

Either way, it becomes almost pointless to upgrade a notebook after about 2-3 years. Therefore, wait for Yonah, uses different socket so it would not be possible to upgrade your CPU. I have a feeling you might need to buy another laptop when the hybrid hard drives come out with Vista, anyway. So on and so forth...
