Upgrading iphone to new 3.1.2 with jailbreak

Well i jail broke my iphone 3GS the day i got it , which was the day it came out in july i believe of last year. i never did the MMS upgrade because i new it would unjailbreak my phone, so i've been hobbling along with Swirly MMS to send pictures. For a while i didnt want to upgrade bceause the Cydia forums on my iphone said they havent had a crack yet for the new 3.1. So my question is, is it finally safe to plug my phone into itunes and let it upgrade it? i know it will probably temporarily unbreak the phone untill I do a simple makeitra1n jailbreak. Is there an easy way like that to do it these days? I have a SHSH on file with Cydia with my phone. Or is there not a jailbreak for the 3.1.2 software? If there is, please give me details on what to do to get my jailbreak back up and running after OS upgrade. Thanks

you didnt do the mms upgrade? its just an ipcc file - it wont screw up your jailbreak.

you can update via itunes to 3.1.2, then all you have to do is use blackra1n (works on pc/mac) to hacktivate, jailbreak, unlock for you.

ok, updating iphone now and just dloaded blackrain.... purple rain, black rain, what's next? who cares, i like it, they keep it simple, just wondering though if my free tether will still work...... i be burnin' up my unlimited data package real bad, hope att doesnt cut me off... got to love 3g speeds....thanks

np! yep your tethering will work as well. go to http://help.benm.at/help.php on your iphone and download the correct mobileconfig file for your provider. it should work
