Hi all!

DSL will finally be available in my area in October, and I told myself I won't upgrade until DSL is available...

So I'm going to build from scratch...

MY QUESTION:
Are we expecting any leaps in cpu's in the next few months? (i'm planning on oc'ing an Thunderbird 1.4) Should I wait and see if anything else comes out or just plan on the Thunderbird 1.4?

Thanks in advance!

Rules of Hardware Upgrading

1) Buy as much as you can with your money, but don't buy the top of the line. Buy the "second" of the line
2) If you need to upgrade, upgrade. If you start waiting for the next jump in hardware, you'll be playing the waiting game forever.

It is a good plan...now get out of here until then or you will be corrupted to part with your money...

I would wait...nforce boards...sis735 chips...palominos (desktop) maybe near 1.533ghz...more mature ddr platform...

I doing my next big upgrade come november when I hope to either get dual 1.2 or 1.4 mp chips...for my none gaming more video encoding, cadd 3d rendering life this will give me the most...

I'll be doing it from the ground up...

So I'll need

CPU:
MB:
MEM:
CASE:
CDRW:
HD:
VIDEO:

I'm a gamer, so I want a game machine that'll last awhile...

Any suggestions?

Suttung

I'm thinking the Thunderbird cpu.. but the rest is up in the air...

Dual would be cool... 🙂

You say wait til these come out - nforce boards...sis735 chips?

Any idea when they're expected?

THANKS!

I am expecting to take the 1.4 to 1.6 by oc'ing...

One thing not related to upgrading...

If your telco says DSL will be available in October, that certainly does not mean that it will actually be available in October. MediaOne told me I would have cable modems in December of '97... I still don't have them. BellSouth told me I would have DSL 2 years ago -- I just got it 2 months ago.

Beware... I would not base an upgrade plan on something as precarious as the words of the telco.

I did actually placed an order with them, and it's got an install date of 09/27...

But I do understand... I have ISDN and it took an additional week to get it installed...

extra week is pretty good, my dsl provider (verizon... ehhh) hooked me up finally about 3.5 months after my initial installation date. So, just beware and don't base any decisions on their dates.
