Upgrading Home to Pro on Compaq Laptop

I am trying to upgrade a new Compaq 5101 I purchased with home.
I keep getting an internal error message when I run the XP Pro upgade disc.
Do I need to reformat entire HD and remove recovery partition?
The restore dics for drivers is 12 discs and burn your own.
How do I reinstall drivers from the 12 disc set.
NOVICE HERE!!!
Have done upgrade before on laptops with no problem.
Whay is this different?😕
