As far as I'm aware the board I have supports it & my 500w PSU is ok:
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard

Now I know the R7 260x has a "1x 6-pin power connector"

&

The GTX 970 has a "2x 6-pins power connector"

So how do I go about the connector???

You only have one PCI-E six pin. You could get an adapter for the second, but I wouldn't chance it. Get a better power supply with the proper connectors.

In my opinion that power supply is too weak to run a GTX 970 reliably. Here's a recent Newegg review from the 550Watt version of your power supply:

should have checked it out a little further. had thought 550w meant this thing pumped out 550w. so i purched a EVGA 960 GTX vid card that keeps shutting the whole pc down. the card states needs 400w .. and i thought i had 550w ... booooo

It appears that these power supplies are overrated in terms of their true wattage.

Yeah, and it's also not 80+ qualified, and the 550W version only puts out 384W on the 12V rail... OP, if that PSU wasn't part of an OEM system, you made a huge mistake when building your system. Sorry to say it, but you need to replace that janky PSU before you even think about upgrading anything in your system. Buy the new PSU and keep your current card for a few months until the new cards are out.

Is your CPU going to be able to handle a GTX 970?

How much RAM do you have?

Is there enough clearance in your case for the GTX 970 card you want?

Ok so I guess I need a new PSU, Any you guys recommend?

From where? Here's one from newegg: EVGA GQ 650W $66.51 AR shipped
