Upgrading from XP 2526??

I already asked this in OS, no responses so I'll give it a whirl in GH. I am currently running XP 2526 which I downloaded legit from MSFT. I am going to upgrade to the full version of XP. What do I need? XP Professional Upgrade? XP Home Full??

I don't think so. RC1 and RC2 were upgradable (with XP-Pro), but I dont' think the minor builds are upgradable. Even then, it wasn't a documented feature (that I saw, anyway) - I found out by trying. I suggest you do the same - just try it. If yours was an official MS d/l then it must have been part of the official Beta scheme. Why not just ask MS? Or use the Beta newsgroup, if it's still active.

If I was going to guess which versions you would be able to upgrade with (and this is only a guess) - I'd say that it would be Pro, and that the full version would be more likely to work. It's only a guess. The only path I can personally testify to is that RC1 and RC2 can be upgraded to final/gold/2600 with the full (not upgrade) XP Pro license/disc.

well thx ... its RC2 thats what 2526 is RC2 ... I know it can work with Pro full but I'm not shelling out 299 for it when I think it might be able to be done with either Home Full or Pro Upgrade

nakanaka, buy the upgrade and save the $100 and buy more RAM. it should upgrade from 2526 to WinXP Pro.
it did mine and i think you can do a clean install if you want (but check on it first).

see thats the thing I don't want a clean install, I just did one in September and its not what I want to do during the middle of the year. Too much to lose. Even if I do backup. So thanks I'll get the Pro Upgrade like I planned. Now if I only I can find it for less than 199.
