Upgrading from Xeon X5650 @4.5 to 5820K or other. For M.2 support...

Hello!
So as much as I love my system:

*CPU: Xeon X5650 @ 4.5 Ghz (22x205)
*Asus Rampage III Formula | RAM: 12GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer DDR3 1600 7-7-7-21 1.5v

I am beginning to feel like I want faster storage performance, ie M.2 drives which sadly are an issue for my x58 based system.
My idea was to add a PCIe card for USB 3 and one for M.2 and keep rocking this system for longer but alas, thats not going to happen.
Maybe adding the fastest SATA III via PCIe I can find is not so bad????

This is almost exclusively used for Photoshop CC (big raw files from my A7Rii camera and many plug ins) and 4K video editing with Premier and Sony Vegas.
Gaming will come back later on when Oculus or similar have been out for a while.

In any case, what you guys recommend? If I can somehow extend the life of this system longer, I will be very happy with that too!

I wonder if running something like a raid 0 with 4 small SSDs would be viable? it would be pretty fast since it's sata II limit x4

This is more general hardware than CPUs...

Can your board not boot from a device in a pci-e slot? There are pci-e to m.2 adapters that allow pci-e drives to be used.

If you're not using a pci-e m.2 drive, an sata3 card would enable you to take full advantage of sata3 ssds. Just remember that most low and mid priced m.2 drives are sata anyway, so you really don't lose anything.

I posted on CPUs because of the limiations of the x58 platform with M.2 not booting after a lot of research thus my idea of upgrading to a new CPU but not sure which will be the best option as in best bang for buck performance when OCed for my needs.
Maybe a Sata 3 card is a good choice but with that and a USB3 card, I am down to one PCIe only so this is where I must decided if I throw more money at this system or get a newer one..decisions decisions.

I would second the idea of running some 120gb SSD's in RAID 0. Performance would be great and you wouldn't have to retire your current system.
