Upgrading from win98 FE to SE

How would one go about upgrading from Windows 98 FE to SE with the full version SE disc? It says I need the upgrade disc, which I don't have. Any ideas?

boot up with the SE disk and run setup that way.

That doesnt work because it says an OS is already installed. My friend was trying to do it, but he ended up just reformatting cause nothing wanted to work.

reformatting is the only way i can think of
a fresh format and install always feels good when its done though

i shed a tear for you, my son. i will send some kleenex later this week. a clean format and install is the only way to salvage some sanity.

couldn't u have just renamed the windows folder to something like win_bak, then booted to the 98 cd and ran setup?

You could rename C:\Windows\win.com to C:\Windows\win.co_ and then run setup again. I've done that so many times and it's seemed to work on all of the older 9x OS.

You also could try using a boot disk and use the deltree command and del the windows folder from your hard drive. Then restart the computer with the win98SE CD in and run the setup. This will work sometimes if not reformating is the only way.
